HUNTINGTON MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTES
Since its founding in 1952, the scientists and physicians of Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) have helped improve medical and surgical diagnosis and treatment. HMRI is proud to have had the support of the Guild since its inception. HMRI is also proud of its affiliation with Huntington Hospital and its role in helping attract and retain some of the leaders of its medical staff and medical education program. Working together, HMRI, the Guild and the Hospital not only enhance the care available in our community, but foster innovation, discoveries and education that add quality years to the lives of people around the world. HMRI is widely known for development of the hydrocephalus shunt to treat "water-on-the-brain", pioneering studies on biomedical application of laser energy, basic and applied cancer research, development of electronic neural rehabilitation technology, studies in vascular biology and the development of methods and applications of medical magnetic resonance, including imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS). Today, our principal research programs are directed toward the development of new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast, colon, and prostate cancer, stroke, heart disease, epilepsy, profound deafness, liver disease and cancer, migraine headache, sleep apnea and brain diseases including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
